Overview
With the town sitting at 2050m and the ski area going up to 3883m, the longest winter season in Italy, and pistes stretching all the way to Switzerland, Cervinia really is the perfect destination for a winter holiday. You’ll realise you’ve made the right choice even before you arrive in resort. As the Matterhorn looms into view, no matter if you’ve seen it a million times before, you still have that ‘chills down your spine and huge, stupid grin’ moment.
The history of alpinism and winter sports runs deep in Cervinia. Everywhere you look, you’ll see signs of the climbers, explorers and pioneers, who made their names famous in the mountains. From the original Matterhorn rifugio stationed outside the Tourist Info Office, to the hotels owned by the families of the first climbers of the Himalayas, you can add your own name to the list of adventurers who have explored and enjoyed this spectacular ski area. The first lift station was built in 1936 and it has continued to grow and modernise since then.
