Everything you need to know about snowboard & ski hire in Sauze d'Oulx
Planning a ski trip involves a lot of moving parts. Do you go with one of the big tour operators, like Crystal or Inghams? Private or shared transfer from the airport? Is it better to book early & hope the snow’s great, or wait until the last minute and check out the webcams?
We answer all those questions & more in the rest of the blog, but here, we’re going to dive into the issue of rental equipment.
Once you’ve chosen which ski resort you’re going to (and I’m guessing, as you’re here, you’re coming to Sauze d’Oulx), researched the lift pass and sorted your accommodation, the next thing to organise is snowboard & ski equipment.
Getting your snowboards & skis right (at the right prices) can make or break your winter holiday. No one wants to pay through the nose for skis that have been battered for the past five seasons. You want the best quality equipment at a decent price. And more, you want to hire skis that are right for your level.
If you’re a beginner, you do not want that guy in the ski shop pushing you to rent the most expensive equipment package that are too big & fast for you to master a snow plough. And if you’re an advanced skier, desperate to make the most of your time on the mountain, you don’t want to be palmed off with an old set of skis without sharp edges that are far too small for the shredding you want to do.
If you already know everything you need to know about ski hire in Sauze d’Oulx, skip the article & jump straight to the booking page. But if you’ve still got a few questions, stick with me and you’ll soon have all the answers.
The right Ski, Snowboard & Boot Rental makes or breaks your winter holiday. You deserve the Best Quality at the Best Prices.
First thing first… A quick introduction of who we are & why booking through Monsguide is the best option for your ski trip to Sauze.
Ash & I have spent over a decade working across Europe’s biggest and best ski resorts for all the big ski holiday companies. Crystal, Inghams, Neilson – you name them, we’ve worked for them. But after the pandemic, Ash got fed up with the way things were changing. He wanted to make sure the holidaymakers who’d saved all year for an incredible experience were getting the very best customer service. That’s why we’d started working in the mountains to begin with – because we love skiing & snowboarding, and we want everyone who comes out to these ski resorts has the best possible holiday possible.
So we quit our jobs, moved to Sauze d’Oulx in the Via Lattea & Ash started Monsguide to share his years of knowledge & expertise to make sure that you have the ski trip you deserve.
We only work with ski hire shops that we use when our friends & family come out. These are the shops where we get our snowboards & skis serviced and where we hire equipment when we want to try out different kit before we buy. The service & expertise in the shops we choose to work with is second to none.
What’s more, we work only with ski hire shops that are in decent locations. Just because we have a car and can drive out of town to pick up rental skis doesn’t mean you can when you’re here on a holiday. The shops are located conveniently, no matter where you’re staying, so you don’t have to spend your first day on holiday trekking around town to get your equipment sorted.
Because we live & work here, we negotiate the best possible prices and pass on these discounts to you, so you’ve got a few more euros leftover to spend on mountain lunches, après beers & all the other activities on offer in Sauze.

Book NowSnowboard & Ski Hire - Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to know about collecting my ski equipment?
Take your ski socks with you so the ski shop staff can fit your boots perfectly. Make sure you’re honest about your level…. and be honest about how much you weigh. Especially when hiring skis, it’s important to tell them your weight in KGs so they can set the bindings to the correct level. If you aren’t honest about these two things, your skis will either be popping off far too easily, or never coming off at all, no matter how epic your fall.
What about snowboard & ski boots?
You can hire just skis, helmet & poles if you’ve got your own boots, just don’t forget to bring them with you when you’re picking up your equipment. If you haven’t got your own boots, you can book a package that includes boots. The staff in the shops will help to make sure they fit you perfectly before you leave. Don’t be scared to say if they feel too loose or too tight. The most important thing is that you’re comfortable and wearing the right gear to enjoy your holiday.
What's the difference between beginner, intermediate & advanced skis?
Don’t just hire the super, platinum, top-tier equipment because you think it’ll make you a better skier. It won’t. And it can actually make skiing a whole lot harder if you’re not on the right equipment for your level. There’s a big difference between the skis you need to learn to snow plough, to carve gorgeous curves on the piste, or send it in fresh powder. Be honest about your level with the ski shop staff & they’ll make sure your equipment helps (and doesn’t hinder) your time on the mountain.
When can I collect my snowboard & skis?
Get to the hire shop the day you arrive on your holiday and you’ll be able to collect your ski equipment to start using at first lifts the following day. The exact time you can collect varies depending on which shop you choose, but it’s usually in the afternoon. Return them in the evening after you’ve finished your final day skiing.
